Why We Give: Supporting a Future Beyond Cystic Fibrosis

At Alquemy, we believe success should mean more than growth and profit — it should mean impact. That’s why we’re proud to commit a portion of our annual profits to the Toronto Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre, part of St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto — a world-class medical institution that is transforming what it means to live with cystic fibrosis (CF).

A Centre of Excellence

The Toronto Adult CF Centre, located within St. Michael’s Hospital, is the largest adult CF clinic in North America and one of the few of its kind worldwide. It’s home to a remarkable multidisciplinary team of specialists — physicians, nurses, dietitians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, mental-health professionals, and researchers — all working together to help adults with CF live longer, healthier lives.

For more than 40 years, the Centre has not only provided exceptional clinical care but has also been at the forefront of research and innovation. It plays a leading role in advancing global CF medicine — conducting clinical trials, driving data-based research, and helping pioneer breakthrough therapies that have fundamentally changed outcomes for patients.

Transforming the Future of CF

Only two decades ago, cystic fibrosis was largely considered a childhood illness. Many patients didn’t reach adulthood. Today, because of the dedication, research, and compassionate care delivered by clinics like the Toronto Adult CF Centre, that reality has changed dramatically.

New CFTR modulator therapies have significantly improved lung function, nutrition, and overall quality of life for thousands of Canadians living with CF.
Over the past 20 years, the median life expectancy for someone born with CF has more than doubled — and continues to rise each year.
Children born with CF today can look forward to living well into middle age, building careers, starting families, and leading full, active lives that once seemed out of reach.

This progress represents one of modern medicine’s great success stories — built on decades of relentless work and compassion from the team at St. Michael’s Hospital’s Toronto Adult CF Centre.
